Korey Lindsey Woods was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2011 NFL Draft. The defensive star enjoyed a great career with the Southern Illinois Salukis.
Lindsey was a First Team All-America selection by the Associated Press, becoming just the third Saluki in program history to garner First Team All-America accolades in back-to-back seasons. He also garnered Second Team All-America accolades from The Sports Network. Lindsey plays with a chip on his shoulder and his on and off the field leadership was awarded when his Saluki teammates voted him Team captain. The tough cornerback was also a 2010 Buck Buchanan Award finalist and a First-Team All-MVFC and ended his senior season with 41 tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss, one interception and one quarterback hurry. Lindsey also tied for third in the MVFC with seven pass breakups. His best game came against North Dakota State when he had seven tackles. He also made the play of the game when he broke up a pass in the end zone on fourth down to secure SIU's 45-38 overtime victory over No. 21 Northern Iowa on Oct. 9. Lindsey also returned 10 punts for 56 yards with a long of 24.
The East-West Shrine Game is the oldest and one of the most respected of the post-season collegiate bowl games. Since 1925, the game has been known for the quality of the players and coaches, as well as for the excitement of great college football action.
But that's not what makes the game "Football's Finest Hour." What makes the East-West Game so special is its true purpose — helping to support Shriners Hospitals for Children. Every year since 1925, the East-West Game has been played to raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children and to raise awareness about the expert orthopedic, burn, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, and cleft lip and palate care, available at no charge to patients and families, through the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children. The players themselves regard the game in a special light, as they learn the true purpose of the game during a pre-game visit to the Shriners Hospital in Tampa, Florida.
The Saluki’s best player was rewarded for his outstanding college career by being invited to participate in the East-West Shrine Game at the Florida Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Florida. Lindsey was just the fourth Saluki to ever play in the East-West Shrine Game following Lionel Antoine, Tom Baugh and Brandon Jacobs. Lindsey played on the West squad, which was coached by Dallas Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips. Dan Reeves coached the East team. Despite Lindsey playing a solid game for the West, the East team won 25-8. The future is bright for the Cincinnati Bengals cornerback.
