Richard Marshall is a 5'11", 189 lb defensive back from Fresno State University who was selected by the Panthers in the 2nd round (58th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. He has been a significant part of the Carolina Panthers pass defense over the last few seasons.
During his rookie season, Marshall played in portions of all 16 games with eight starts. He tied for the team lead with 3 interceptions and led the Panthers with 12 passes defensed. Marshall also posted 75 tackles, forced 2 fumbles and had 2 fumble recoveries. He was a key member on a defense that only allowed 3,000 net passing yards, which ranked as the second-fewest ever surrendered in Panthers history.
Marshall had another solid year in 2007 when he ranked third among defensive backs with 73 tackles in addition to registering eight passes defensed, four quarterback hurries, two fumble recoveries and one sack. He also led the Panthers with 17 special teams tackles.
