Thomas Davis is a linebacker for the Carolina Panthers. He was selected in the first round (14th overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft out of the University of Georgia. In his debut season he played in all 16 games making one start. He recorded 38 tackles and 1.5 sacks.
In the 2006 season, he started in all 14 games that he played in recording 88 tackles and adding 1.5 sacks. The following season (2007) he started all 16 games for the first time in his career and was a defensive force registering 88 tackles with 3 sacks.
The 2008 season turned out to be a career year for Davis. The durable and consistent linebacker started all 16 games for a second year in a row, but this time he recorded 113 tackles, 3.5 sacks, and forced 2 fumbles to lead the Panthers defense.
Davis was one of the most dominant defensive players in the NFL for the 2009 season with 61 tackles through the Panthers first seven games. He had 16 tackles on opening day against the Philadelphia Eagles. Sadly, Davis suffered a season ending torn anterior cruciate ligament with 10:40 remaining in the Panthers 30-20 loss at New Orleans during a pass play from Drew Brees to Pierre Thomas.
Davis is already back at Panther’s camp playing at full strength and will no doubt be an integral part of the Panther’s defensive success for the 2010 season.
