Gary Carter Montreal Expos Signed Hall of Fame Plaque Postcard – PSA GEM MT 10

Description

Gary Carter (April 8, 1954 – February 16, 2012), affectionately nicknamed “The Kid” for his infectious, boyish exuberance, was an elite American professional baseball catcher who played 19 seasons in Major League Baseball. Drafted by the Montreal Expos in 1972, Carter quickly developed into a franchise icon, known as much for his powerful bat as his exceptional command behind home plate. Over his storied career, which included highly impactful tenures with both the Expos and the New York Mets, as well as late-career stops with the Giants and Dodgers, he amassed 2,092 hits, 324 home runs, and 1,225 RBIs. His relentless work ethic and competitive spirit earned him 11 All-Star selections, three Gold Glove Awards, and five Silver Slugger Awards.

Carter’s signature moment came during the 1986 World Series, where his clutch, two-out single in the bottom of the 10th inning of Game 6 ignited one of the most famous comeback rallies in baseball history, ultimately propelling the Mets to a world championship. Celebrated as a natural leader who could “will pitchers through games,” he also set the National League record for most career games caught (2,056). Following his retirement in 1992, Carter transitioned into a successful second sports career as a television broadcaster and a minor league manager. He was enshrined into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003, notably becoming the first inductee depicted wearing a Montreal Expos cap on his plaque. Tragically, Carter passed away from glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, in 2012 at the age of 57, leaving behind a legacy defined by his charity work and an enduring passion for the game.
