Adam Hayward is a free agent linebacker, most recently playing for the Washington Redskins. Hayward was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the sixth round of the 2007 NFL Draft. A linebacker at Marina High School, Hayward was unnerved by the idea of playing the position of safety for Colorado State University. He decided to take a year off from football at Colorado to take care of some family issues. Eventually, he found his place starting as an outside linebacker for Portland State University under Tim Walsh.
Hayward was one of the Buccaneers’ best special teams player since he was drafted out of Portland State in the sixth round in 2007, and in 2011 he also emerged as a valuable asset on defense. Hayward led the Buccaneers in special teams tackles in five of his last six seasons in Tampa Bay. His tremendous efforts led to him serving as the Buccaneers’ special teams captain for three years from 2011-13. He also established a single-season career high in special teams tackles in each of his first four seasons. In 2011, he was the team leader in that category with 20, and the season before he ranked third with 15. Hayward played in 107 games for the Tampa Bay Bucs with 13 starts. He collected 128 tackles, 2 fumble recoveries and 1 sack.
In addition to his on the field accomplishments, Hayward was named the Tampa Bay Bucs’ 2010 Man of the Year for his involvement in many charitable endeavors in the Tampa Bay community, including breast cancer awareness. He is also deeply involved in the Susan G. Komen organization. Hayward was also named the 2010 Buccaneers Walter Payton Man of the Year.
The linebacker signed with the Washington Redskins as an unrestricted free agent on March 12, 2014. Hayward was named special teams captain by his teammates prior to his first season in Washington. In 2014, Hayward played in 11 games and collected 13 tackles. Unfortunately his season was cut short when he was placed on injured reserve due to a tibial plateau fracture in his right leg on November 24, 2014.
The featured reebok cleats were game worn by Hayward in a regular season game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The size 15 black and white cleats show great use and have been signed by Hayward and he has added “Game Worn” to the right cleat. His # 57 is written in black on back heel. Awesome!
