Terry Bollea, better known by his ring name Hulk Hogan, was an American professional wrestler. He was best known for his work with WWE and World Championship Wrestling. Known for his flamboyance and massive physique, and his trademark blond horseshoe moustache and bandanas, Hogan was widely regarded as the most recognized wrestling star worldwide, the most popular wrestler of the 1980s and one of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time.

Hogan began his professional wrestling career in 1977, but gained worldwide recognition after signing with the World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) in December 1983. There, his persona as a heroic all-American helped usher in the 1980s professional wrestling boom, where he headlined eight of the first nine editions (1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9) of the WWF’s flagship annual event WrestleMania. Hogan also was a regular headliner of Saturday Night’s Main Event and its spin-off The Main Event. During his initial run, he was a five-time WWF Champion, with his 1,474-day reign being the longest of the WrestleMania era ever. He was the first wrestler to win consecutive Royal Rumble matches, winning in 1990 and 1991. His match with André the Giant on WWF The Main Event on February 5, 1988, still holds American television viewership records for wrestling with a 15.2 Nielsen TV rating and 33 million viewers.

Hulk Hogan was a massive star in the world of professional wrestling, and his star power often brought other celebrities into the view of the squared circle. Hogan’s popularity brought Muhammad Ali and Mr. T to the very first “WrestleMania” back in 1985, and it also led him to wrestle alongside NBA superstar Dennis Rodman in 1997 and 1998 for World Championship Wrestling.

After winning the 1997 NBA championship with the Chicago Bulls, Dennis Rodman made his professional wrestling debut as a member of the “New World Order” with Hogan. The pair competed in a tag team match against Lex Luger and The Giant at “Bash at the Beach.” In August of that year, he would interfere in a match on Hogan’s behalf to help him win WCW’s World Heavyweight Championship.

Rodman would return to WCW for the 1998 edition of “Bash at the Beach.” That year, he and Hogan teamed to face Diamond Dallas Page and Utah Jazz star Karl Malone in a tag team match. Rodman and the Bulls defeated Malone’s Jazz to win their third straight NBA title, and the Bulls’ sixth of the ’90s.

Rodman retired as a five-time NBA champion, two-time All-Star and two-time Defensive Player of the Year. He led the NBA in rebounds seven times and is considered by many to be the best rebounder of all time, given his 6’7″ height against larger forwards and centers.
