Jonathan Aranda is a standout first baseman and infielder for the Tampa Bay Rays. Known for his incredible professional discipline, elite bat speed, and pure hitting capability, the Tijuana, Mexico native has rapidly transitioned from an elite minor league prospect into a key cornerstone of the Rays’ dynamic offense.
Born on May 23, 1998, in Tijuana, Mexico, Aranda was discovered by Rays scouts in 2015 and signed as an international free agent. He quickly turned heads across the minor leagues with an exceptional contact tool and defensive versatility across the diamond. After dominant campaigns in the high minors—including earning Southern League MVP honors in 2021 and International League Player of the Year in 2023 with the Durham Bulls—Aranda officially broke into Major League Baseball, making his highly anticipated MLB debut on June 24, 2022.
Aranda’s true major league breakout arrived during his stunning American League 2025 All-Star campaign. He has cemented his status as a premier run-producer for Tampa Bay, flexing dynamic power from the left side of the plate while anchoring first base. Known for delivering in high-leverage situations—including dramatic extra-inning walk-offs and tape-measure home runs—Aranda has established himself as an international fan favorite and a central piece of the Rays’ future. On the international stage, Aranda proudly represented Team Mexico at the 2023 World Baseball Classic, helping secure a historic bronze medal.
