Josh Augusta is a defensive tackle for the New England Patriots. Augusta was signed shortly after the 2017 NFL Draft as an undrafted free agent. Augusta played college football for the Missouri Tigers.
Despite not being a starter for most of his career, Josh Augusta contributed greatly in every game over the past four seasons for the Missouri Tigers. He stepped up his playing time between his freshman (nine tackles, three for loss, two sacks) and sophomore (23 tackles, 4.5 for loss, sack, two forced fumbles) seasons. The only season in which Augusta started games was 2015, and he lined up first in all 12 games (27 tackles, 8.5 for loss).
Josh Augusta, who signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent, starred on both sides of the ball as a teenager playing, defensive tackle, defensive end, outside linebacker, tight end, fullback, wideout and even kick returner for Peoria High School in Illinois.
Augusta switched to D-line full-time in 2013 upon arriving at the University of Missouri, but he did make a few cameos on offense late in his college career. Augusta carried the ball 10 times in short-yardage situations as a senior in 2016, picking up 15 yards and scoring two touchdowns.
The Patriots are currently deep at defensive tackle, with Alan Branch, Malcom Brown, Vincent Valentine, Woodrow Hamilton, 2016 practice-squadder Darius Kilgo and newcomer Lawrence Guy all under contract for the upcoming season. Augusta and fellow UDFA Adam Butler of Vanderbilt will compete for roster spots this summer.
