The talented running back was a four-year starter for Coach Brian Hoffman at Hubbard (Ohio) High School. He rushed 295 times for a school single-season record 2,819 yards (9.6 yards per carry; 216.8 yards per game) and 38 touchdowns in 2014. As a senior, he rushed for 2,819 yards with 38 touchdowns.

In 2015, as a true freshman, Scott led the team in rushing (699 yards; 49.9 ypg.; 4.8 avg.), carries (146) and rushing touchdowns with 11. He became the first freshman to lead MSU in rushing since Larry Caper in 2009 and was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team by ESPN.com. Scott’s 11 rushing TDs tied for third most in the Big Ten and were also second most by a Spartan freshman in a single season. (Sedrick Irvin, 16, 1996) The talented running back capped off a stellar freshman season scoring the game-winning touchdown in the 2015 Big Ten Championship Game against No. 4 Iowa with 27 seconds remaining that sent Michigan State to the College Football Playoff.

As a sophomore, Scott led the Spartans in rushing yards (994), carries (184), total touchdowns (7) and rushing touchdowns (6), while also leading the running backs in yards per carry (5.4) His 994 rushing yards were seventh most by a Spartan sophomore in a single season and his effort led to him being named a third-team All-Big Ten selection by the media, Athlon Sports and Phil Steele. He was also an honorable mention all-league choice by the coaches and offensive recipient of MSU’s Outstanding Underclass Back Award.

In 2017, Scott led the Spartans in rushing for the third straight season with 898 yards on a career-high 201 carries (76.6 ypg) . He also had a career-high 20 catches for 146 yards and one score. The talented running back also led the team in all-purpose yards (1,044; 87.0 ypg), ranking 11th in the B1G in all-purpose yards per game and 12th in total all-purpose yards. Scott posted his second 100-yard rushing outing of season with 147 yards on a career-high 29 carries against Maryland, recording the most rushing yards by a Spartan against Maryland (previous: 138 by Jeremy Langford in 2014), and was the third-most single-game total of his career. Scott was also named to the Pro Football Focus Big Ten Team of the Week after recording career highs in both carries (25) and rushing yards (194) at Minnesota while also tying a career high with two rushing TDs (24 yards in second quarter; 6 yards in fourth quarter). The 194 yards was the most rushing yards by a Spartan since the last time MSU played at Minnesota in 2012, when Le’Veon Bell had 266 yards rushing on 35 carries.

The four-year letterwinner closed his career ranked among MSU’s all-time leaders in rushing yards (ninth with 2,855 yards), carries (ninth with 610), rushing touchdowns (12th with 25), total touchdowns (13th with 27) and all-purpose yards (18th with 3,283). Scott played in 43 career games, had nine career 100-yard rushing games and led MSU in rushing three straight seasons (699 yards in 2015; 994 yards in 2016; 898 yards in 2017) He also added 43 career receptions for 403 yards and two TDs. On December 6th, 2018 Scott decided to enter the 2019 NFL Draft instead of returning for a fifth season at Michigan State.
