Description

AJ Francis is a free agent defensive tackle most recently playing for the New York Giants. He played his college football at the University of Maryland. During his five years there — which included a red-shirt season — Francis tallied 143 tackles, 9.5 sacks and four blocked kicks. Francis has also been a member of the Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots and Miami Dolphins.

As a senior at Maryland, Francis moved outside to the end position — where he’d never played before — and responded with a stellar season. He led the Terrapins with three recovered fumbles and three blocked kicks. He tied for second on the team with four sacks and was third with nine tackles for losses.

On November 16th, 2015, Francis was acquired off waivers by the Seattle Seahawks. On November 24, he was released by the team, but signed to the practice squad two days later. On November 30th, 2015, he chose to be promoted to the active roster in Seattle over resigning with the Dolphins to their active roster. On March 8, 2016 Francis signed his one-year exclusive-rights tender deal to return to Seattle.

On October 12th, 2016 Francis signed with the Washington Redskins. He was promoted to the active roster on November 29, 2016. He was waived on December 10, 2016 and was re-signed back to the practice squad. Francis signed a futures contract with the Redskins on January 2nd, 2017. Francis played in 6 games in 2017 and recorded 18 tackles.

The East-West Shrine Game is the oldest and one of the most respected of the post-season collegiate bowl games. Since 1925, the game has been known for the quality of the players and coaches, as well as for the excitement of great college football action.

But that’s not what makes the game “Football’s Finest Hour.” What makes the East-West Game so special is its true purpose — helping to support Shriners Hospitals for Children. Every year since 1925, the East-West Game has been played to raise funds for Shriners Hospitals for Children and to raise awareness about the expert orthopedic, burn, spinal cord injury rehabilitation, and cleft lip and palate care, available at no charge to patients and families, through the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children. The players themselves regard the game in a special light, as they learn the true purpose of the game during a pre-game visit to the Shriners Hospital in Tampa, Florida.

AJ Francis wore the featured white and black nike socks in the 2013 East -West Shrine Game on January 19th, 2013 at Tropicana Field in St Petersburg, Florida. Arizona’s Matt Scott threw a 57-yard touchdown pass to Mississippi State’s Chad Bumphis in the second quarter to help lead the West team to a 28-13 win over the East in the 88th annual East- West Shrine Game. Bumphis led all players with 91 receiving yards on four catches and was named the game’s Offensive MVP. Texas A & M’s Christine Michael added a rushing touchdown while gaining 43 yards on 13 carries to help the West earn its second straight victory in the event. Francis had 3 tackles and a sack in the game. Francis has signed the xl socks and added “Game Worn in East West Shrine Game” in black. Sweet pair of socks from the former Terp!
