Description
Nick Williams is a wide receiver for the Denver Broncos of the National Football League. Williams (5-10, 184) was originally signed by the Washington Redskins as a college free agent on May 2, 2013. After being waived on Aug. 31, the team added him to its practice squad on Sept. 1. On November 8, Williams was promoted to the active roster. Williams has also been a member of the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams. He played college football at the University of Connecticut.
Williams grew up in East Windsor, New Jersey and played high school football at The Hun School in Princeton, N.J where he earned all-conference honors on both offense and defense as a junior and senior. He was a pre-kinesiology major while at University of Connecticut.
He played collegiately at UConn, where he earned first-team All-Big East honors at punt returner as a senior in 2012 after returning 21 punts for an average of 12.0 yards and two touchdowns. The 5-10, 184-pound Williams recorded 30 catches for 334 yards as a senior for the Huskies. Two years earlier, Williams lead the Football Bowl Subdivision in kickoff return average, finishing the 2010 season with a 35.3-yard average. His 2,045 career kickoff return yards at UConn are a school record.
The Washington Redskins signed Williams as an undrafted free agent on April 28, 2013. The undrafted rookie out of Connecticut recorded seven catches for 51 yards and one punt return for 29 yards during the preseason. He was released during final cuts, but signed to the practice squad a few days later. On November 8, Williams was promoted to the active roster in place of Chris Thompson. He made his career debut in Week 11 against the Philadelphia Eagles, where he had a five-yard reception and scored a two-point conversion.
