Description

Scott Daly is a long snapper who is an NFL free agent. He played college football at Notre Dame. Daly attended Downers Grove South High School and committed to Notre Dame in April 2011. Daly has also been a member of the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Commanders of the the Alliance of American Football (AAF) and the New York Guardians of the XFL.

Back when he was growing up in Downers Grove, Ill., Daly used to tack newspaper articles about longtime Chicago Bears long snapper Patrick Mannelly on his bedroom wall. This wasn’t your typical high school idolization of a star athlete, like Michael Jordan or Brian Urlacher or Sammy Sosa or Frank Thomas.

Daly’s sport growing up was always baseball, and he figured that would be his athletic ticket into college. He joined the football team at Downers Grove South and played quarterback and tight end for a bit, but his sophomore year, he discovered he was able to snap the ball to a holder and/or punter pretty well. Mark Wiggins, a former kicker at Illinois State, was his coach at the time and told Daly’s mother, Marianne, that the Daly family should look into developing Scott as a long snapper. Marianne and Kevin Daly took Scott to work with Chris Rubio, who runs long snapping camps for high schoolers and has developed a number of players into college long snappers. About a year later, Rubio ranked Scott as the No. 1 high school long snapper in the country, and he began to receive interest from the college level. Northwestern was the first to offer. He also helped the Downers Grove South Mustangs earn a 10-2 record in 2011 and he was named the best high school long snapper in the country by Scout.com.

After redshirting his freshman year at Notre Dame— Scott still got to travel to every game in the 2012 season behind then-long snapper Jordan Cowart — he took over long snapping duties in 2013. And to illustrate how good he’s been at them: Scott’s name barely came up in coach Brian Kelly’s various press conferences over the four seasons. (and he was mentioned by Kelly that he was the only ND player whose job wasn’t in jeopardy).

Daly started all 13 games in 2015 and 39 straight over his first three seasons. He was revered by his teammates for his consistent play. His quarterback DeShone Kizer said Scott’s snapping “consistency is second to none.” And Kizer laughed when asked who throws a better spiral, him or Scott. Daly was perfect on 126 snapping opportunities, including 52 extra points, 17 field goals and 57 punts. Daly also recovered a fumble in a November 21, 2015, game against Boston College at Fenway Park.

The featured Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2013 Shamrock Series Adidas Climalite Shirt was issued to Scott Daly as a member of the Fighting Irish. The Shamrock Series is Notre Dame’s home-away-from-home game series, which began in 2009 when the first game of the series was played in San Antonio. The 2013 Shamrock Series featured the Notre Dame Fighting Irish against the Arizona State Sun Devils at the $1.2 billion home of the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas on October 5th, 2013. Irish Kicker Kyle Brindza kicked three second-half field goals, the go-ahead kick from 25 yards with 3:03 remaining. He tied a Notre Dame record with a 53-yarder made. T.J. Jones had eight catches for 135 yards, including a pair of first-down catches on the drive to the winning field goal. Cam McDaniel had four straight carries for 32 yards to get Notre Dame in field goal range. The Irish clinched the win when Dan Fox, who recovered a fumble to set up a touchdown, returned Kelly’s second interception 14 yards for a touchdown with 1:08 remaining. Daly has signed the Shirt and added his “#61” and “Go Irish!” in black. The Shirt is in great condition.
