Travis Ivey is a nose tackle is currently a free agent, and who most recently was on the roster of the Oakland Raiders of the National Football League. He was signed by the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent in 2010. He played college football at Maryland. Ivey started off his career at Riverdale Baptist High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland where he did not take up football until his junior year.

Ivey is a powerful interior presence who emerged as the starting defensive tackle near the end of his junior season. He is 6 foot 4, 325 pounds and displays excellent athleticism. He played in 32 career games with 16 starts for the Terrapins. In his senior year, Ivey started all 12 games at defensive tackle and was an All-ACC nominee. He had a season-high four tackles, including 0.5 TFL against MTSU on September 19th and recovered a fumble. Ivey added three tackles, including his first sack of the season, against Rutgers the following week. He also contributed big against Virginia on October 17th with four stops and a recovered fumble. In his senior season, Ivey recorded 54 tackles, six stops for loss, two sacks and three fumble recoveries.

Ivey’s shown good ability to clog running lanes, while his strength and power are off the charts. He’s a space eater and was one of the defensive leaders for the Terrapins. Ivey’s size is a major key to his success against the run, but also make him a threat to batter down passes. Those traits could help him add depth in the interior of a 3-4 defense for a future NFL team.

Ivey went to camp with Miami as an undrafted free agent this year before being awarded off waivers to the Browns on August 25. He was released by Cleveland on September 4 and then signed to the team’s practice squad a day later.
